A Marketing Report Template Clients Can Make Decisions From
A useful marketing report template records the reporting scope, results against a goal, supporting evidence, measurement gaps, one next action, and an owner with a review date. Start with the decision your client needs to make, then include the numbers that support it. Use the template and report builder below to produce a clear update you can repeat next month.

Start With This Marketing Report Template
Use six fields for the decision page. Keep detailed charts or channel exports in an appendix that readers can open when they need to check the evidence. A client should be able to find the result, the remaining question and the next action without searching through slides.
| Field | What to Include | Question It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Website, dates, comparison, currency, revenue definition and attribution model | Which activity are we comparing? |
| Results | A few agreed outcomes beside their goals and prior values | Are we moving toward the business goal? |
| Evidence | A specific source, page or campaign observation and its report reference | What deserves our attention? |
| Gaps | Missing records, unmatched payments, timing or other known limits | What can this report not establish? |
| Next action | One concrete change or investigation with an observable result | What will we do? |
| Accountability | Named owner or team and a review date | Who follows through, and when? |
For an online store, collected payments and refunds may be the central outcomes. For an agency serving a consultancy, qualified enquiries and accepted opportunities may matter more. Keep booked deals separate from cash received. If the specific challenge is explaining organic-search performance, use the SEO revenue reporting guide alongside this general template.

Read a Completed Monthly Report Example
The example below shows how a report can acknowledge progress while leaving a real decision open. It uses payments less refunds as net recorded revenue, before fees and other costs.
| Report Field | Example Entry |
|---|---|
| Scope | Example website, September 1–30 vs August 1–31, 2026, UTC. USD. First-Touch. Net recorded revenue means payments less refunds. |
| Results | $12,000 net recorded revenue vs $10,000 before, up 20%. Goal: $13,000, so $1,000 below target. Paid-ad spend: $3,000. |
| Evidence | A product page appears in more recorded buying visits. Review the page and its checkout handoff before increasing the campaign budget. |
| Gaps | Some payments remain unmatched. September and August have different numbers of days. Revenue credit does not establish that the campaign caused the change. |
| Next action | Reproduce the product-page checkout handoff on common devices and check whether the visitor reference reaches the supported payment flow. |
| Accountability | Website team owns the check. Review the findings on November 6 and decide whether a fix or a limited budget test is justified. |
The revenue increase is ($12,000 − $10,000) ÷ $10,000, or 20%. Target attainment is $12,000 ÷ $13,000, about 92.3%. Neither calculation explains the cause. Record the direction and the gap, then show the observation that leads to the next check. Use comparable periods or explain the difference when their lengths, promotions or buying cycles vary.
Do not divide total business revenue by paid-ad spend and call the result paid-ad ROAS. That calculation mixes scopes. Use the revenue credited to the selected paid campaigns under the agreed rules, and review margin and other costs separately. The ROAS and ROI worksheet helps make that cost basis explicit.
Build Your Own Report From Checked Notes
Replace the example entries with business-level figures you have checked. The builder formats your notes into the six-field report. It does not connect to an account, calculate attribution or verify a narrative. Copy the result into your document, or download the offline version to use its print layout.
Complete the evidence and gaps before writing a confident conclusion. If you do not know whether a payment matched a visit, write that it is unchecked and name the check. Blank space is a signal to investigate, not permission to fill it with a plausible story.
Gather Comparable Numbers in Attriboo
Open Dashboard, select the client's website, and set the reporting dates and comparison. Keep the attribution model the same while copying figures. Write those settings in Scope so next month's reviewer can reproduce the view. Check the date-range guide if you need a calendar month, month to date or an earlier comparison.
Find Where Is My Money Coming From? and select Sources. Compare recorded visitors with revenue credit, then choose View all for the standalone source report. A large traffic share with a small revenue share is a question to examine, not a verdict that the source is worthless. The sources guide explains how those rows differ from grouped channels.

Sources separates services such as Google Ads and ChatGPT. Channels groups them into broader categories.

View all opens the standalone Sources report, where you can review its date range and search the recorded rows.
For the revenue field, check the report's Sales, Refunds and Net alongside the connected provider. Record the currency and the definition used. Net payment revenue is not profit, and a source row need not explain every collected payment. Keep unmatched records visible rather than assigning them to the source you hoped would perform well.
When a page or source warrants investigation, use the recorded journey to inspect what happened before a linked purchase. That sequence can suggest a useful checkout or content check. It cannot tell you every offline influence or reconstruct visits that were never recorded.
Separate an Observation From Its Explanation
Write what changed before proposing why it changed. 'Recorded revenue credited to this source increased' is an observation. 'Our new article caused the increase' needs additional evidence. A promotion, repeat customers, a tracking fix or another channel can affect the same period.
- Name the change and the report settings that produced it.
- Check a relevant page, campaign or payment record before offering an explanation.
- State a competing explanation or missing record when it could change the decision.
- Choose an action that can resolve the question, with an owner and review date.
Treat a fresh API export and a screenshot taken later as two snapshots until you align them. Google's Data API guidance explains that date ranges, metrics, dimensions and filters need to match, and that ongoing processing can change recent data. Apply that discipline when comparing a GA4 export with its interface; do not assume the same definitions apply to every analytics product.
Choose a Format the Client Will Actually Use
Use a document or PDF for a monthly decision and a spreadsheet for the supporting rows. A dashboard is useful for exploration, but a client should not need to discover your recommendation by clicking through filters. Put the recommendation and its evidence in the report, with the source available to inspect.
| Format | Useful For | Watch For |
|---|---|---|
| Document or printed report | An agreed snapshot and a short recommendation | Record the export date and keep a copy; a live document can change after review. |
| Spreadsheet | Checking definitions, calculations and source rows | Protect formulas and label manual inputs. A colored cell is not evidence of accuracy. |
| Interactive dashboard | Exploring the period, model and source detail | Preserve the exact filter settings and keep account access appropriate for the recipient. |
| CRM view | Lead quality, booked deals and follow-up ownership | Keep deal value distinct from confirmed payment revenue. |
Only automate a report after the manual version is repeatable. Attriboo's API can supply supported analytics to a developer's reporting workflow, but extraction does not write a defensible explanation for you. Keep workspace keys on the server and review the output before sharing it. You do not need an API integration to use this template.
End the Meeting With One Owned Decision
Ask the client to approve the next action and the review date, not just acknowledge receipt of the report. 'Review conversions' has no clear finish. 'Test the pricing-to-checkout handoff on mobile, record the result and decide whether to fix it on Friday' gives the owner a task they can complete.
At the next review, start with that action: was it completed, what did the check establish, and what remains open? Then update the same scope and scorecard. Keep a separate list of routine delivery work when it matters to the contract. The decision page should explain business progress without becoming a timesheet.
The strongest report is the shortest one that still lets a reader check your reasoning. Remove a chart if it adds no evidence or decision. Keep a limitation when it could change the client's choice. That balance is more useful than a longer deck full of unexplained improvements.
Common questions
Should a weekly marketing report use the same template as a monthly report?
Keep the scope, evidence and ownership fields, but change the decision. A weekly update can focus on delivery blockers and immediate checks. A monthly report can compare business outcomes over a more suitable period. Avoid interpreting a few days of activity as a settled revenue trend when customers take longer to buy.
Can I use this marketing report template in Word, Google Docs or Excel?
Yes. Copy the generated text into a document or split the six fields into spreadsheet rows. The downloadable HTML version works in a browser and has a print layout for saving a PDF. The builder does not create a native Word or Excel file, and you should review the page breaks before sharing.
What should an agency report before revenue attribution is working?
Report the outcomes you can verify, such as confirmed payments in the billing system or qualified enquiries in the CRM, and mark the missing marketing connection. Assign a tracking or matching check as the next action. Do not replace missing revenue evidence with a traffic increase and call it ROI.
How should I report a percentage change when the previous value was zero?
A percentage increase from zero has no defined denominator. Show the absolute change instead, such as zero to five qualified enquiries, and state that the prior value was zero. Do not label it a 100% increase or use an unlimited percentage as a performance claim.
Can AI write the monthly marketing summary for me?
It can help format checked notes, but it should not infer missing causes or invent a source for a payment. Supply the reporting scope, verified figures and known gaps, then review the draft against the underlying reports. Use approved tools and access rules before sharing client data. The report builder here formats your entries without calling an AI service.
