A simplified explanation of a matched journey. Some payments have no matching visit and remain unattributed.
The useful part
A clearer view of what brings customers.
Compare sales with marketing activity
Review PayPal revenue beside the website sources and pages you recorded. Use the same dates and attribution model when comparing channels.
Keep refunds in the picture
Recorded refunds reduce revenue and follow the original payment's visitor when a match exists.
Bring in available payment history
With Transaction search enabled, Attriboo checks the last 90 days. Imported payments do not recreate website visits that were never tracked.
Check website tracking
Install the script from Attriboo Setup and verify a visit on the website where customers begin checkout.
Connect your PayPal app
In Setup, choose PayPal. An owner or admin adds the app's Client ID and Secret. Enable Transaction search in the PayPal app if you want the history import.
Review the connection and reports
Check the Live or Sandbox label and import status. Compare recorded payments with the same dates and currency before reviewing source credit.
Before you connect
Know what the reports can tell you.
Which amounts are recorded?
PayPal amounts are recorded as reported by PayPal. They are gross amounts; tax is not separated in this connection. Check this definition before comparing with a before-tax provider.
How are payments matched?
Supported PayPal Buttons flows can pass the tracked visitor reference. Server-created orders need the supported custom reference. Known payer and earlier subscription matches may also link a payment.
Why might history arrive later?
PayPal Transaction Search can lag by about three hours. Check both the import status and the provider's payment records before treating a recent gap as a missing sale.
A few common questions
PayPal, explained simply.
Why is the history import asking for Transaction search?
PayPal requires that feature on the app used for the connection. Setup explains how to enable it. Without it, new supported payments can still arrive through the webhook, but the history import cannot complete.
Can I connect a PayPal sandbox?
Yes. Sandbox credentials connect the sandbox and are labeled accordingly. Use Live app credentials to report real payments.
Will every imported payment have a marketing source?
No. A payment can be imported without a matching tracked visit. Check tracking and the checkout reference; unmatched payments remain unattributed.
Does disconnecting delete previous sales?
No. Disconnecting removes the webhook and stored connection credentials. Previously imported sales stay in Attriboo, while new payments stop arriving through this connection.
