Track AI crawlers
AI services send software called crawlers to read web pages. Crawlers do not run the Attriboo script, so your website reports them to Attriboo directly. Use the WordPress plugin or a Cloudflare Worker. You only need one.
Before you start
- You have added the website in Attriboo.
- Your website runs on WordPress, or its address is managed in Cloudflare with the orange cloud (proxy) switched on.
- You can sign in to WordPress or Cloudflare, or someone who manages the website can help.
Find your website ID and API key
- Choose the website in Attriboo, then open Setup.
Under 3. Track AI crawlers, the WordPress instructions show the website ID with a Copy button. It starts with site_.
- Select the Settings → API & MCP link in those instructions.
Settings opens at the API & MCP card.
- Select Show, then Copy key.
Your API key starts with atb_live_.
Option 1: WordPress plugin
- In Setup, under 3. Track AI crawlers, select WordPress, then Download the plugin (attriboo.zip).
Keep the file zipped.
- In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
Choose attriboo.zip, select Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
- Open Settings → Attriboo in WordPress.
- Paste your Website ID and API key.
After saving, the key field shows Saved. Paste a new key only if you want to replace it.
- Choose what the plugin sends, then select Save Changes.
If you already pasted the Attriboo script into your theme, untick Add the tracking script to every page. Keep a single installation method so future changes are easier to check.
Option 2: Cloudflare Worker
- In Setup, under 3. Track AI crawlers, select Cloudflare and select Copy beside the code.
The code already contains your website ID.
- In Cloudflare, open Workers & Pages, select Create, then Create Worker.
Name it attriboo-ai-crawlers and select Deploy.
- Select Edit code, replace everything with the copied code, and select Deploy.
- Open the Worker's Settings → Variables and Secrets.
Add a Secret named ATTRIBOO_KEY. Use your API key as its value.
- Open Settings → Domains & Routes and add a Route for your domain.
For example, yourstore.com/*. Set the route to fail open, so your website keeps working if the Worker's daily limit is reached.
Check that it works
Nothing appears until an AI crawler visits, which can take hours or days. Visits are sent to Attriboo as totals, so they show up within about 5 minutes of the crawl. When the first one is recorded, Setup shows Receiving AI crawler visits from WordPress, or from Cloudflare.
Crawler requests then appear in the AI section of your dashboard, grouped by service. A crawler request shows that software read a page. It does not prove that your page appeared in an AI answer.
Monthly limit
AI crawler visits are free and don't count toward your event allowance. Each workspace can record up to 100,000 crawler visits a month on the Free plan and 5 million on paid plans. Setup shows how many you've used this month.
If you reach the limit, new crawler visits aren't recorded until the 1st of next month. Everything else keeps working.
If nothing appears
- Check that the Website ID matches the website selected in Attriboo.
- WordPress: if you installed the plugin before version 1.2.0, download it again from Setup and upload it with Replace current with uploaded. Your settings are kept.
- Check that the API key is current. If you regenerated it, paste the new one.
- WordPress: a page-caching plugin can answer some requests without running WordPress, so those visits are not logged. The Cloudflare option records every request.
- Cloudflare: check that the route covers your domain and that the domain's DNS record has the orange cloud switched on.
You are done when
Setup shows that AI crawler visits are being received for the correct website.
