How to install Attriboo on an HTML website

For a website made from HTML pages, put the Attriboo script in the head of every page you want to track. If your site uses a shared layout, add it there once instead of editing each page.

Instructions reviewed

Before you start

  • Add the website in Attriboo and make sure you can edit and deploy its source files.
  • Use this guide for normal HTML pages or a shared server-rendered layout. Choose a framework guide if your build tool processes script tags differently.
  • Keep a backup or version-control checkpoint before changing the template.

Copy the script for this website

  1. Choose your website in Attriboo.

    Check the address in the website selector. Add the website first if it is not listed.

  2. Open Setup and choose Something else.

    Under Add the tracking script to your website, find Where is your site built? Choose this platform, then use Copy beside Your code. This gives you the right code format with your website ID filled in.

Place the script in the shared head

Find this setting

  1. Shared page layout
  2. Inside <head>
  3. Before </head>
  4. Deploy
  1. Find the layout used by your public pages.

    It may be a common header or base template. If there is no shared layout, update each HTML page you want to track.

  2. Paste the exact Setup script before </head>.

    Keep its defer attribute, website ID and script address. Do not add secret API keys or wrap it in a second head element.

  3. Deploy the changed website.

    Check the public address. A local file on your computer is not the published website installation.

Placement example — replace the comment with your complete Setup script
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Your page</title>
    <!-- Paste the complete Attriboo script from Setup here. -->
  </head>
  <body>
    <!-- Your page content -->
  </body>
</html>

Check that page visits reach Attriboo

  1. Open the published website in another tab.

    Use the address your customers visit. Make your normal tracking choice if a consent banner appears.

  2. Return to the same website in Attriboo → Setup.

    Select Test Connection. Look for a successful result such as Verified Live or activity on the correct address.

  3. Follow an internal link, then use your browser’s Back button.

    Check those paths in the Pages view for the current reporting dates. Allow the reports to refresh. An active connection alone does not confirm every page change.

Common custom-site problems

What you noticeWhat to check
Only the homepage appearsThe snippet may have been added to one file rather than the shared layout. Check a second page’s rendered source.
Pageviews appear twiceLook for a second snippet, a tag-manager copy or a manual pageview call. Keep one loader per document.
No visits after deploymentCheck the live HTML, browser errors, consent settings and the copied script address. A cache may still serve the old template.
First page works, internal links do notCheck that the current tracker loads on the published site. Attriboo handles supported History API changes; a custom navigation system may need a separate review.

If the site uses a content security policy

Ask your developer to allow the script origin shown in Setup and the collection endpoint it uses under the relevant script-src and connect-src rules. Keep existing security restrictions; do not disable the whole policy to make a tag load.

Custom proxies or a different data-api endpoint require their own configuration check. Use the script supplied for your installation rather than guessing an endpoint.

Connect visits to recorded revenue

Installing the script records website activity. To bring sales into Attriboo, connect the service you use to collect payments in Setup as well. Then compare the recorded sources and customer journeys behind your sales.

A payment imported from before tracking was installed may have no matching visit. Installing today does not recreate old website activity.

You are done when

Your deployed pages load one Attriboo script, and activity from more than one page reaches the correct website.
