How to install Attriboo on Shopify

Add Attriboo to your Shopify storefront theme to record visits. Connect Shopify orders in Attriboo separately so you can compare the recorded sources behind your store’s revenue.

Instructions reviewed

Before you start

  • Add your customer-facing store address in Attriboo.
  • You need permission to edit theme code. Ask your theme developer if you are not comfortable editing HTML or Liquid.
  • Duplicate your theme as a backup. A trial version of a paid theme must be purchased before its code can be edited.
  • This guide covers a Shopify Online Store theme. A headless Hydrogen storefront needs its own application installation review.

Copy the script for this website

  1. Choose your website in Attriboo.

Check the address in the website selector. Add the website first if it is not listed.

  2. Open Setup and choose Shopify.

Under Add the tracking script to your website, find Where is your site built? Choose this platform, then use Copy beside Your code. This gives you the right code format with your website ID filled in.

Add the script to the theme layout

Find this setting

  1. Online Store
  2. Themes
  3. Theme menu → Edit code
  4. layout/theme.liquid
  1. Find the theme you want to update.

In Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes. Open that theme’s menu and select Edit code.

  2. Open layout/theme.liquid and find the closing head tag.

Search for </head>. If your custom theme uses a different layout, ask its developer which layout serves your storefront pages.

  3. Paste the full Attriboo script just before </head>.

Leave the existing Liquid code, including content_for_header, in place. Save the file.

  4. Make sure the updated theme is the published one.

An edit in an unpublished theme will not update the live store. Review the theme before publishing it.

Check that page visits reach Attriboo

  1. Open the published website in another tab.

Use the address your customers visit. Make your normal tracking choice if a consent banner appears.

  2. Return to the same website in Attriboo → Setup.

Select Test Connection. Look for a successful result such as Verified Live or activity on the correct address.

  3. Follow an internal link, then use your browser’s Back button.

Check those paths in the Pages view for the current reporting dates. Allow the reports to refresh. An active connection alone does not confirm every page change.

Storefront tracking and checkout are different

The theme script runs on pages that use that theme layout. It does not install tracking across every Shopify checkout or customer-account page.

Shopify’s Customer events custom pixels run inside a sandbox. Do not paste the standard Attriboo page script there as a substitute for this storefront installation. Use the supported Shopify payment connection to receive order and refund notifications.

Connect Shopify orders to Attriboo

In Attriboo Setup, choose Shopify under the payment connections and follow the webhook instructions for your store. New orders and refunds can then reach your reports. Earlier orders are not imported by this connection.

Check both the visit and the order. An order notification alone does not recover a visit that was never recorded, and an unmatched order can remain unattributed.

You are done when

The published storefront sends page visits, and Shopify order reporting has been connected and checked separately.
