Exclude traffic and your own visits

Exclusions stop Attriboo recording traffic you don't care about. Excluded visits are never stored and don't count toward your monthly events, so they're also the easiest way to stay on your current plan.

Add an exclusion

  1. Open Settings and find Exclusions for your website.

Exclusions belong to one website. Choose the website first if you have more than one.

  2. Choose Pages, Hostnames, Countries or IP addresses.

For countries and hostnames, the busiest ones from the last 30 days are offered as shortcuts.

  3. Type the rule and read the preview.

Attriboo shows how many events the rule would have removed in the last 30 days, and warns you if any of those visitors went on to buy.

  4. Select Exclude.

The rule applies straight away to new visits. Visits already recorded stay in your reports.

How rules match

RuleExampleWhat it excludes
Exact page/adminOnly the /admin page
Everything in a folder/app/*/app/settings, /app/billing and so on, but not /app itself
One hostnamestaging.example.comOnly that hostname
Every subdomain*.example.comblog.example.com, app.example.com and others, but not example.com
CountryGermanyVisits from that country
IP address or range203.0.113.7 or 203.0.113.0/24Visits from that address. IP addresses aren't stored, so these rules can't be previewed

Stop counting your own visits

In Settings, under Your own visits, select Exclude this browser. Your site opens and shows a short note confirming it. Visits from that browser are no longer counted on any subdomain of your site. Do it once in each browser you use.

To be counted again, select Count this browser again. Visits from localhost and other copies of your site on your own computer are never counted.

Pause tracking at your limit

By default, Attriboo keeps recording when you go over your monthly events. You get a reminder the first month, and the dashboard locks only if you go over a second month in a row, so no data is lost.

If you'd rather stop recording than upgrade, turn on Pause tracking at your limit in Settings. Once you reach your monthly events, new visits and goals aren't recorded until the 1st of next month or until you upgrade. Sales from your payment provider are still recorded. Visits during a pause are lost for good.

You are done when

The traffic you don't need is no longer recorded, and your monthly events go further.
