How to install Attriboo with Google Tag Manager
If your website already uses a Google Tag Manager web container, you can add Attriboo as a Custom HTML tag. You do not need Google Analytics to use Attriboo.
Instructions reviewed
Before you start
- The correct Tag Manager web container must already be installed on your published website.
- You need permission to edit tags and publish the container, or help from someone who can.
- Attriboo handles supported app-style page changes itself. Do not add a second loader on a History Change trigger.
- Choose Tag Manager or a direct script installation. Remove the other copy if it is already present.
Copy the script for this website
- Choose your website in Attriboo.
Check the address in the website selector. Add the website first if it is not listed.
- Open Setup and choose Google Tag Manager.
Under Add the tracking script to your website, find Where is your site built? Choose this platform, then use Copy beside Your code. This gives you the right code format with your website ID filled in.
Create the Attriboo tag
Find this setting
- Workspace
- Tags → New
- Tag Configuration
- Custom HTML
- Open the website’s web container.
Choose Tags → New and name the tag Attriboo — website tracking.
- Choose Custom HTML in Tag Configuration.
Paste the special Google Tag Manager version copied from Attriboo Setup into the HTML field. It creates the script element and sets your website ID in JavaScript; do not replace it with the ordinary HTML version.
- Set a page-load trigger that follows your site’s consent rules.
For a site where loading is permitted without a consent gate, a Page View trigger on All Pages is the starting point. If analytics must wait for a choice, have your consent manager control when this tag can load.
- Save the tag.
Do not add another loader on History Change. That can create duplicate listeners and pageviews.
Preview, then publish
- Select Preview and connect to your website.
Use Tag Assistant to check that the Attriboo tag fires once on the intended page load and follows your consent setup.
- Check Attriboo → Setup → Test Connection.
Confirm that activity reached the correct website while testing. A tag firing is not proof of successful collection.
- Select Submit, review the changes, then Publish.
A saved tag or a working preview is not yet a published installation. Coordinate if someone else is changing the same container.
- Visit the live site outside Preview mode.
Check another page and confirm activity again. This checks the published version your visitors receive.
If the tag fires but visits are missing
- Check the website ID and script address against Setup.
- Check whether a browser extension or content security policy blocks the script or collection request.
- Check whether the published container differs from the one in Preview.
- Do not add a Google Analytics property or a Google tag to fix an Attriboo connection. Check the Attriboo tag itself.
Connect visits to recorded revenue
Installing the script records website activity. To bring sales into Attriboo, connect the service you use to collect payments in Setup as well. Then compare the recorded sources and customer journeys behind your sales.
A payment imported from before tracking was installed may have no matching visit. Installing today does not recreate old website activity.
Tag Manager references
You are done when
One published Attriboo tag loads when permitted, and the live website sends activity outside Tag Assistant Preview.
